From Granada Airport (about 2 hours)
Follow the directions for Granada/Sierra Nevada/Motril. You will join the ring road around the city and need to follow the directions for Motril by the motorway N-323. You pass the exit for Lanjarón that indicates ‘La Alpujarra.’ Just past the Rules dam you take the next exit which is signed Vélez de Benaudalla and immediately over the bridge you take the road turning left towards Órgiva. After 11 km you pass through a tunnel but you do not turn left into Órgiva but continue on towards Torviscón. Just past Torviscón you take a road on your left, the GR-413, signposted for Almegijar/Cástaras/Trevélez. This road takes you down across the river Guadalfeo and up through Almegijar. You continue up, passing the turning for Trevélez. The next village is Cástaras and when you arrive in the village the road descends around a bend to the right. Casa Mezcua is immediately on your right.
From Almería Airport (about 2 hours)
Exiting from the airport you follow the directions for the motorway N-340 in the direction of El Ejido/Malaga. This motorway passes Almería and eventually becomes a coastal road. After about 10 km you take the turn off for Albuñol, the A-345. In Albuñol you need to follow the road upwards through the town and not turn right at any point. Just past Albuñol there’s a turning to your right up towards Albondón and Cádiar. When you arrive in Cádiar you come to a T-junction with a petrol station on your left and La Ruta bar on your right and here you turn right onto the A-348 in the direction of Berchules. Shortly after leaving Cádiar there’s a left turn to Berchules. You continue up following the signs for Berchules but on reaching the village you do not turn right into the village but follow the road around to the left towards Juviles. Just at the end of the village of Juviles there is a turning to the left signposted Nieles and Cástaras. You proceed down through Nieles and then continue on for another five minutes to Cástaras. When you arrive in Cástaras there’s a church on your left and here you mark a sharp turn up the hill. Casa Mezcua is then immediately on your left.
From Málaga Airport (about 3 hours)
You leave Málaga Airport following the signs for Málaga and join the N-340 (also known as the Avenida de Velazquez). You now follow the signs for A7/E15 signposted Vélez Málaga, Motril and Almería. You then join the A7/E15 (also known as Autovía del Mediterraneo). You are heading north with the sea on your right. After Salobreña you need to take the exit for the N-323 signposted for Granada. After you pass Vélez de Benaudalla you need to look out for the A34 (a bridge that crosses the Guadalfeo just before the Rules Dam) in the direction of Órgiva/La Alpujarra. After 11 km you pass through a tunnel but you do not turn left into Órgiva but continue on towards Torviscón. Just past Torviscón you take a road on your left, the GR-413, signposted for Almegijar/Cástaras/Trevélez. This road takes you down across the river Guadalfeo and up through Almegijar.
